When you change DNS servers on your computer, you actually changes the server helps to translate the IP to hostname. You may know that all websites will have a IP address and a hostname. Since this DNS servers may cause issues and it leads to your internet connection problem.
In Windows 8, it automatically fetch DNS server that default to ISP(Internet service provider). Sometimes this local DNS servers might not inadequate to bear the load from many users. If a DNS server failed to serve the load, you will have difficulty to access the internet on your computer.
There are so many freely available public DNS servers, that can handle heavy traffic on internet. We can take Google’s DNS servers for example.
How To Change DNS Servers
- Open the Windows 8 Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, touch or click on Network and Internet.
- In the Network and Internet click on the view network status and tasks
- On the popup window, click on the Change adapter settings
- From that networks list select your connection, since I am using Wi-Fi I will right click on the WiFi connection, and goes to the properties
Note :In Windows 8, wired connections are usually labeled as Ethernet, while wireless ones are usually labeled as Wi-Fi. - While on properties select ipv4 and click on the properties, here you can change your custom DNS server addresses
