How to Add Music to Videos and Edit the Audio?

Using a proper piece of background music that perfectly matches the video is very helpful for creating a mood. The good news is that it is not a daunting task to add music to video. In this article, you will learn 2 simple methods to add background music, popular songs, or an audio recording, to your video. One method is adding music with Windows free video editing program – MiniTool MovieMaker and another method is adding audio on YouTube.

Part 1. How to add music to the video easily and edit it on the Windows PC?

For both advanced users and beginners, the best way to add audio to videos is using desktop video editing programs. Besides, you could make some tweaks to give your video production a more polished look. You will find quite a long list of video editing software on the Internet. Here you can learn how to use MiniTool MovieMaker, the Windows free video editor without a watermark, to add a song to your video.

With MiniTool MovieMaker, you could remove the audio track(s) and add different songs to the video at the designated positions. The software also makes things easy to split large video into small parts, trim the video, add different video transitions and visual filters. Furthermore, you can add subtitles, add credits with only a few mouse clicks. If you want to cut the time of video edits, you can select the video templates that are designed in the software.

To add music to the video, please download and install MiniTool MovieMaker to your Windows 10/8/7 PC, then follow the tutorial below.

① Click on Import Media File to load a video, to wish you wish to add background music, then drag that video and drop it to the timeline at the bottom of the software.

② Click Import Media Files to import one piece of background music, after it’s done, drag and drop that music file to the timeline.

How to mute/remove the original audio track in the original video at first?

Step 1: If you want to remove the original track, please click the Mute button (you will see that button on the timeline).

Step 2: If you only want to remove a portion of the original track, please drag the playhead to the start point of the unwanted part of the track, afterward, click the scissors icon on the playhead to split the video. When you are finished, click on Mute.

Now you can split the video into smaller parts, and then read the 4 simple steps to add background music to each clip.

Step 1: Choose a song from your local computer, drag the playhead to the right place, and click the scissors icon on the playhead to split the music → right-click on the unwanted part → select the Delete option from the drop-down list.

Step 2: Do the same steps to add a song to your video, and then, please repeat the last step to edit music.

Step 3: If you want to add fade-in and fade-out video effects, please right-click on the music, after that, select Edit to fade in and fade out music.

Step 4: Preview the video that you edited to ensure the content looks great, tap on Export in the toolbar at the upper-right corner of the interface, at last, click on the Export button to save the video. You can select different video formats and resolutions in this step.

Part 2. How to Add Music to Video and Edit the Audio on My Youtube Channel?

If you forgot to add background music to your video and uploaded it to your YouTube channel, you don’t need to delete that video and re-upload a new one. YouTube has an online video editor that allows you to make some changes to the existing video, so your video URL won’t change. Continue to read and you will know how to add mp3 to a video on YouTube.

Step 1: Open the web browser→ sign in to your YouTube account.

Step 2: Clicking your profile picture at the top-right corner of the screen → select the YouTube Studio (beta) option from the drop-down menu, now you will see YouTube Studio (beta) page.

Step 3: Tap on Videos on the left side of your screen, you will see all your uploaded videos, unlisted and private videos. Find the video, to which you need to add a piece of music.

Step 4: By clicking the Editor option in the sidebar, you will enter the video editor page.

Step 5: Now you could find the audio icon, please expand it by clicking the arrow icon. To add mp3 to a video, you are supposed to choose the AUDIO option now.


Step 6: Select the audio, when it is done, click “ADD TO VIDEO”. Wait for a little while, the music will be added to your selected video shortly.
