This tutorial illustrates how to manage inventory settings in Magento 1.9.
1) To Configure the Inventory Section, login to the Magento admin panel, go to System->Configuration and click on the Inventory button in the Catalog at left side.
2) On the page you will see two options 1) Stock Options 2) Product Stock Options
Stock Options screen contains below options to configure
Set Items’ Status to be In Stock When Order is Cancelled : By default this option is enabled. It means when you cancel an order the items go back to stock.
Decrease Stock When Order is Placed: By default this is checked. It means when you place an order, quantity will decrease the total stock
Display Out of Stock Products: By default this is set to No. Out of stock items will not show in the frontend of the website. But if you select this option to Yes, all the products will be showing in the frontend.
Only X left Threshold: If you set your number, when a product stock drops to this (or lower) number the text “Only X left Threshold” message will appear (X is number of products).
Display products availability in stock in the frontend: It is enabled by default. It means if a product have enough stock it will show as in stock in the frontend.
Product Stock Options
Product stock options contains the following stock options.
Manage Stock: By default this item is set to Yes. This option give you option to controll the stock in product level. If this is disabled you can not controll the stock for a product. But it is suitable for the products doesn’t need stock like downloadable products, virtual product.
Backorders : By default this set to No. It means a product cannot be ordered when its qanitiy is zero. If you want to use this feature just select either Allow Qty Below 0 or Allow Qty Below 0 and notifiy customer.
First condition will allow the customer to order a product while its quanitity is zero, the second option will allow the customer to backoders at the same a time notify the customer in the cart page with a bakc order allowed message.
Maximum Qty Allowed in Shopping Cart: This will make sure the maximum number of products can be orderd in th shopping cart.
Qty for Item’s Status to Become Out of Stock: By default when inventory reaches zero the product will turend to out of stock.
Minimum Qty Allowed in Shopping Cart: It sets a minimum vlaue customer has to add to the shopping cart. It is calcualted per item level, not whole shopping cart level.
There will be couple of addional feileds will appear when you click the dropdown: By using this option you can set different minimum quanitiy for different customer group. For example logged in customers will have number and wholesale customer will have different number.
Notify for Quantity Below: When quanoity reaches below certain quaniity cusomer will be notified.
Enable Qty Increments: By default, this option is disabled. You can enable it to set quantity steps and customers will be able to add to the cart a product only if its quantity is set to a number that matches the increments.
Automatically Return Credit Memo Item to Stock: Set this option to Yes if you want the products to be returned to stock after the item is refunded.
Click Save Config when the necessary changes are made.
